The ATF is seeking international firearms trafficker, Sheriff Olaleran Mohammed. Mohammed smuggled firearms from the U.S. to Nigeria and made false statements on firearms purchase records. In October 2012, Mohammed shipped a container containing vehicles and household goods from Minneapolis, MN. The vehicle belonging to Mohammed had 8 firearms hidden inside, in violation of U.S. export regulations. The day the container was shipped, Mohammed departed on a flight from Minneapolis to Nigeria.
The shipping container, which contained the vehicle, firearms, ammunition and personal property, left Minneapolis for Nigeria, via New York and then Valencia, Spain. The firearms were recovered by Spanish law enforcement, and turned over to U.S. law enforcement. In November 2012, Mohammed was arrested in Atlanta, GA, when returning from Nigeria, and was later released on bond pending his trial.
On June 16, 2014, Mohammed was found guilty on one count of smuggling goods from the U.S., and 17 counts of false statement during the purchase of a firearm. Mohammed was allowed to remain released pending his sentencing and was required to check in with a probation officer and remain in MN. Mohammed failed to comply with his supervision condition and a warrant for his arrest was issued on August 11, 2014.
Recent information indicates that Mohammed may be in Nigeria. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Sheriff Mohammed is encouraged to call 1-888-ATF-TIPS.
