Skyjacker Martin J. McNally continues telling how he lands safely in a farm field. He determines he is in Indiana by the license plates. After hiding over night, hearing helicopters come and go, he decides to make his way to the closest town. After a nearly being struck by a passing car, the local sheriff stops to check him out. Mac convinces the sheriff he has been visiting a friend in the area and after a fight with his brother, he is trying to return home. The law enforcement officer gives him a ride into Peru, Indiana where he checks into a local hotel. As he enters the sheriff’s car, he has a small pistol in his back pocket. Being confident he has fooled the sheriff, Mac pitches the Beretta .25 pistol into the weeds next to the road.

While Mac is hiding in the local hotel, searchers find the clothes, his parachute and his gun. A local farmer finds the money. After a discussion with his son, the farmer turns in the money. Mac said if the man had kept the money, even if he gets caught, he would never have revealed he lost the money.  After several calls back to Detroit trying to get a ride home, Walter Petlikowski answers and agrees to drive down.
